Montreal — Thursday February 7, 2008 — ATOPIA is proud to announce that Federico Hidalgo’s film, Imitation, will hit DVD shelves in Canada on February 12th, 2008!

Imitation, the new feature film from the makers of the critically acclaimed A Silent Love (2004), stars Vanessa Bauche (Amores Perros 2000), was written by Federico Hidalgo and Paulina Robles, and is directed by Federico Hidalgo.

Imitation — which recently opened at The Bloor Cinema in Toronto and The New Cinéma Du Parc in Montreal — has garnered acclaim at several prestigious film festivals over the last few months, including Cinequest, San Diego Latino Film Festival, Vancouver Latin American Film Festival and Vistas Film Festival.

Teresa, an alluring Mexican woman, comes to Montreal in search of her husband who had abandoned her in Mexico, cutting her life in two. In Montreal, she meets Fenton, a young man who falls in love with her. Fenton convinces Teresa to let him help her find her husband. In their pursuit, Teresa and Fenton criss-cross Montreal, persuading a string of comical characters to reveal clues that will finally lead them to the wayward husband. In the end, Teresa must decide whether to reveal the painful secret that haunts her.

A lively road-movie, Imitation provides a unique incursion in the hispanic community of Montreal as seen from the view point of a Mexican immigrant.

Montreal, Thursday September 13, 2007 — Atopia is proud to announce the participation of Imitation, Federico Hidalgo’s second feature (A Silent Love, 2004) at Vistas Film Festival in Dallas, Texas. Imitation stars Vanessa Bauche (Amores Perros), Jesse Aaron Dwyre and Conrad Pla, and will be screening at the Angelika Film Center on September 20 at 2:15 pm, September 21 at 2:30 pm, September 22 at 12:00 pm.

In addition, Federico Hidalgo will lead a Film Workshop on Saturday, September 22 from 4:00 to 5:00pm, in which he will present select scenes from the film and discuss what went into creating them with anecdotes and reflections.

Tuesday June 19, 2007 - Atopia is pleased to announce the selection of Imitation, Federico Hidalgo’s second feature (A Silent Love, 2004), in the Official Competition of the 11th Annual Urbanworld VIBE Film Festival taking place in New York City from June 21st to June 24th, 2007. Following screenings at the 17th Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California, and at the 14th San Diego Latino Film Festival, the New York city screenings will be held Friday, June 22nd at 5.45pm and Saturday, June 23rd at 6.15pm, at the AMC Loews 34th St Theatre.

The Urbanworld Film Festival hosts the world’s largest minority film festival dedicated to redefining and enhancing the role of minority films in contemporary cinema.

Imitation stars Vanessa Bauche (Amores Perros), Jesse Aaron Dwyre and Conrad Pla, is written by Federico Hidalgo and Paulina Robles, directed by Federico Hidalgo, and produced by Pascal Maeder. This film will open in theatres across North America in the summer 2007.
